Custom Painting & Commissions

What is a Painting Commission?

A custom painting commission is when you hire an artist to paint an image based on your photographs or idea. This is done at the artist’s home or studio, and can take a few weeks to complete depending on their current schedule. Common subject matter includes portraits, pets and animals, landscapes, cityscapes, homes, vehicles, plants and flowers, a still life, quotes or scriptures, master copies of famous impressionist paintings, and just about anything else you can think of that you would want painted on canvas.

The Custom Painting Process.

Start by deciding what it is that you want painted, and what size you want based on where you will put it in your home or business. Next fill out the commission request form and I will message you back with pricing and a timeline. We can talk on the phone or via email to go over your painting ideas and reference photos before I start the painting. I require a 50% deposit to start the painting, and the remaining 50% once it is complete. I will send you a photo of the final painting before it is shipped. Shipping is not included and will be calculated on a case-by-case basis.

Frequently Asked Questions.

What is your current turnaround time?
During a normal (non-holiday season) time of the year, the turnaround time could be 2-4 weeks. During holiday season (October-December) it could be longer. If you know you want to gift a painting, please get your request in as soon as possible. Timelines will also depend on my live painting schedule and is subject to change. I will post my current turnaround time and availability occasionally on my
Instagram account, or you are welcome to email me at any time.

What type of paint and canvas do you use?
I use high-quality, professional acrylic paints and mediums. The painting will get 2-3 layers of protective varnish once it is complete. All canvases are gallery-wrapped, meaning there are no exposed staples on the sides and it is ready to hang on the wall without framing if desired.

Do you paint on anything besides canvas?
Yes, I can also paint on cradled wood panel in the smaller and medium sizes up to an 18”x24” panel. If you have another idea of a surface, or a different shape of canvas (like a circle) that you would like me to paint on, I’m open to trying it!

Would you do a wall mural?
I have done a few small ones several years ago, but it really depends on a lot of factors. I would of course be willing to consider it! Please fill out an inquiry or email me with details, and we can discuss it.

How do I care for my painting once I receive it?
All paintings will be varnished to help prevent minor scratches to the paint. If needed, you can use a microfiber cloth for dusting, or a lightly damp towel. Avoid any chemical cleaners and direct sunlight for extended periods of time. If your painting is on wood, I would not advise having it in a high humidity environment, such as a bathroom. When moving or storing the painting, put tissue paper and cardboard over the canvas and then wrap in bubble wrap or a thick cloth to prevent damage. If the canvas gets a small dent in it, you can lightly spray the back with water, rub it in, and let it dry. This will re-tighten the canvas fabric.
